This sounds simple enough.  However, the vast majority of us do not possess these skills.  Why?  Because our education trains us to be listeners, not communicators.  We begin as wide-eyed children, passively sitting while our teacher speaks from the front of the class, and often end our formal education in an ampitheater along with perhaps hundreds of other passive students, listening to our professor lecture.
